Top 100 Startup Accelerators and Incubators in India

India has more startup accelerators and incubators than ever, and that’s the problem. Hundreds of programmes, all promising funding, mentorship and connections, with no quick way to tell which one actually fits your stage, your sector, and your city.

This directory fixes that. Roughly 100 programmes, grouped by category so you can build a shortlist in a couple of minutes. It’s ordered by type, not ranked, because the “best” one depends entirely on what you’re building and how far along you are.

One disclosure first. We run one of these programmes ourselves, so here’s where we fit, then the rest of the field.

build3 impact accelerator (that’s us)

The build3 team on Bharat startup yatra shooting

build3 is an impact accelerator and startup studio based in the Western Ghats (north of Goa). We back early-stage founders building for profit and purpose, with a lean towards climate, sustainability, and social impact. Selected startups can receive up to ₹25 lakh in pre-seed funding, plus mentorship, a founder community, and a cohort you live and build alongside.

We’re a certified B Corp, so “impact” isn’t a label we bolt on at the end. If you’re building something meant to leave people and the planet better than it found them, come see what our founder community in Goa looks like.

That’s the pitch. Everything below is the wider ecosystem.

Incubator, accelerator, or VC: which do you actually need?

These three get used interchangeably, and picking the wrong one costs you months.

An incubator supports very early or pre-revenue ideas. Expect workspace, mentorship, sometimes a grant, and a long, flexible timeline, often a year or more. Many sit inside universities or the government and take no equity.

An accelerator takes a startup that already exists and compresses its growth into a fixed cohort, usually three to sixteen weeks, ending in a demo day. Expect a cheque, intense mentoring, and often a slice of equity in return. Roughly half of India’s top programmes now run on a zero-equity model, so read the terms before you assume.

A VC or angel network writes a cheque for equity. Some run light accelerator tracks, but the money is the point.

Most founders travel through them in that order: incubate the idea, accelerate the company, then raise. If any term here trips you up, our plain-English startup glossary covers the rest.

How to use this directory

  1. Shortlist by fit, not fame. A big-name programme that ignores your sector is worse than a small one that lives in it.
  2. Match stage and sector. Idea-stage or growth-stage? Fintech or agritech? Filter hard before you apply.
  3. Read the equity and eligibility terms first, not after you’re accepted.
  4. Lead your application with the problem you solve, your stage, your traction, and why that programme specifically.

The directory: startup accelerators and incubators in India, by category

Each entry lists city, focus, and stage. Programmes change their terms often, so treat this as a starting point and confirm on each programme’s own site before applying.

Government-backed incubation and Atal Incubation Centres

If you’re chasing grants rather than equity, start here, and do your official paperwork here too. Get DPIIT recognition through the Startup India portal first: it unlocks tax benefits, easier compliance, and access to most government-linked support.

  • Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS): grants routed to startups through approved incubators nationwide, typically up to ₹50 lakh.
  • NIDHI (Department of Science and Technology): funds a network of Technology Business Incubators across the country.
  • Atal Incubation Centres (AICs): backed by NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission and hosted inside institutes nationwide. Browse the official AIM registry for the full, current list rather than any third-party copy.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between an incubator and an accelerator?
An incubator nurtures a very early idea over a long, flexible timeline, often with grants and workspace and no equity. An accelerator takes an existing startup through a short, intense cohort ending in a demo day, usually for a cheque and a small equity stake like build3.

Do incubators and accelerators in India take equity?
Many private accelerators and VC-backed programmes take a small equity stake. A large share of the ecosystem, including university incubators, government schemes, and most corporate programmes, takes no equity at all. Always check the terms first.

How do I apply to a startup incubator in India?
Get DPIIT recognition on the Startup India portal, then apply directly on each programme’s site. Lead with the problem you solve, your stage, and your traction.

Which government schemes support startup incubation in India?
The main ones are the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, the NIDHI programme’s Technology Business Incubators, and Atal Incubation Centres under NITI Aayog.

Are startup accelerators worth it?
If the programme knows your sector and its network opens doors you can’t open alone, yes. If you’re joining for the logo, probably not. Judge it on mentor quality and where past cohorts ended up, not brand.

Ready to build something with purpose?

If you’re an early-stage founder building for impact, start with build3’s founder community in the western ghats and our impact accelerator. And if you’d rather see a curated shortlist than the full field, here’s our take on the best startup accelerators in India.
